Casting Process

The Casting process is a manufacturing process which a liquid material is usually poured into a mould, this will have a hollow cavity of the desired shape it will then be left to set. The solidified part is also known as a casting, this is ejected or broken out of the mould in order to complete the process. Materials that are normally used for this process is usually metals or various other cols setting materials that cure after mixing two or more components together, such as epoxy, concrete, plaster and clay. This process is most often used for making complex shapes that would be difficult to do any other way or is too costly by doing it any other way. Casting is now a 6000-year-old process. There are different types of casting one is metalworking this is done by the same process, as before by poured a liquid in to a desired mould, it will then be left to solidify. The process of casting is often split in to two main categories, the expandable and non-expendable. It is broken down by the mould materials such as sand or metal and different pouring methods are used including gravity, vacuum or low pressure. The shrinkage normally occurs when the solidifying process is taking place.
